Dryopteris erythrosora

The underside of the frond of Japanese Shield Fern or Copper Shield Fern (Dryopteris erythrosora) showing the bright red sporangia. This evergreen East Asian fern has fronds up to 60cm long and its young growth is a bright coppery red, which is the reason for another of the its common names: Autumn Fern.
